Who am I?
I am an Assistant Professor of Law at Cardozo Law School, where I teach Contracts and Copyright, and have taught Professional Responsibility, Contract Drafting, and Technology Transactions (a skills seminar I developed).
Prior to joining Cardozo, I was on the public policy team at Google, where I managed YouTube’s response to legislative proposals globally relating to the licensing and availability of music on the platform, which spanned copyright/licensing, broadcasting, competition, tax, and more. Before Google, I spent several years in private practice as a technology transactions attorney. I represented hundreds of companies, primarily startups, in commercial contract and intellectual property matters (including day-to-day deals and large enterprise transactions, e.g., M&A). Both of these experiences directly inform my primary academic research.
In addition to my professional experience, I am a state voting rights and election reform (modernization) advocate. I previously co-chaired the Legislative Affairs Committee of the New York Democratic Lawyers Council, on whose behalf I testified to Albany lawmakers. I am currently on the Board of Directors of, and serve as a Policy Advisor to, Vote Early NY, a non-partisan, non-profit voting rights and education organization. I also assist with statewide voter protection operations each election cycle.
I am the author of Beyond the Work Product: A Guide to Relationship-Based Transactional Lawyering (American Bar Association, 2021). I earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Business from New York University and a J.D. from UCLA School of Law.
What will you find here?
Here you will find a sample of my academic research, election advocacy efforts, and a very occasional musing on things in the world.
The picture above was taken at the Jardin botanique d'Èze in Southern France on a day spent remembering a loved one lost to an opioid overdose (a detail I share in solidarity with the millions of other people who have suffered a similar tragedy).
You can contact me about any of the above here.
